EDF: further progress in Hinkley Point project

(CercleFinance.com) - EDF and its partner, the Chinese nuclear giant CGN, announced on Monday that they have reached a new stage in the construction phase of the Hinkley Point EPR project in south-west England, with the pouring of concrete for the slab of the second reactor.

In all, nearly 9,000 cubic metres of concrete have been poured, less than a year after the first concrete of the Unit 1 building was set in June 2019.

The completion of this milestone is in line with the schedule initially established, despite the social distancing measures and the use of additional personal protective equipment that has been made necessary by the current health crisis, EDF says.

For the record, the nuclear power plant, found in Somerset, will, over the long term, supply low CO2 emitting electricity for nearly 7% of British demand.
