Renault: two autonomous shuttles tested in Barcelona

(CercleFinance.com) - Renault announced Tuesday that it has put two autonomous electric minibuses into service in Barcelona as part of tests conducted with its partner WeRide.


These autonomous shuttles have been available to the general public since yesterday, and until March 14, on a 2.2-kilometer open-road loop in the heart of the Catalan city.

In Valence (France), Renault and WeRide are running an experimental phase until April 19, with a view to setting up a commercial L4 automated shuttle service from July 2025.

This high-service automated mobility network aims to connect the TGV station to the surrounding business park, along a 3.3 kilometer route.

Another experiment conducted by WeRide on the premises of Zurich airport (Switzerland) since January this year also aims to facilitate employee travel between terminals.

Renault unveiled its autonomous vehicle strategy in May 2024, in collaboration with WeRide, with the introduction of two autonomous miniBuses during the Roland-Garros tennis internationals.

With 1,000 km covered and nearly 700 people transported, this first full-scale test demonstrated the maturity of the technology, as well as the relevance of this people-transportation solution", says the company.
