Vinci: tunnel project between Germany and Denmark

(CercleFinance.com) - Vinci is engaged in the Femern tunnel, an "unprecedented" project beneath the Baltic Seabed, which will bring the German and Danish coasts closer together.

For both road and rail use, this 18km long tunnel will be the longest in the world in this category.

Within this framework, Vinci Construction Grands Projets (leader of the batches concerning the tunnel and the factory for the construction of its prefabricated elements) is carrying out the work that begun in January this year. At the peak of activity, no less than 2,000 workers will be on the job, Vinci says.

When the project is completed in 2029, it will take just ten minutes by car or seven minutes by train to link Puttgarden, at the tip of the German peninsula (which gives the tunnel its name), to the Danish port of Rødby. So there will be no more 160 km overland detours required, nor, for those in a hurry, a one-hour ferry trip.
