Veolia: new renewable energy projects

(CercleFinance.com) - Veolia has announced an unprecedented plan to make its water and waste services in France self-sufficient in energy, with the production of over 2 terawatt-hours (TWh) of local energy over the next five years to cover the full equivalent of its current consumption.

This is equivalent to the consumption of 430,000 French households. This energy will be 100% local and of 100% renewable origin.

The main local alternative energy production solutions deployed in France are the generalisation of biogas production through the degradation of organic waste and the methanisation of sludge from the wastewater treatment plants operated by Veolia, the reinforcement of electricity production from non-recyclable waste on the sites operated by the Group. This approach will demonstrate the feasibility of the use of renewable energy sources, such as solar energy, in the production of energy from waste.
