Carrefour: green light for the acquisition of Cora and Match
(CercleFinance.com) - The French Competition Authority has announced that it has authorized the Carrefour group to take control of the French activities of the Louis Delhaize group (Cora and Match stores), provided that seven stores are sold to competing banners.
In addition, one franchise agreement will have to be terminated in favor of a competing chain, so that consumers can benefit from sufficient alternatives to compete for their consumer goods purchases.
The transaction is also conditional on the sale of a shopping mall adjoining one of the stores to be sold.
The Autorité considered that the transaction was not likely to significantly strengthen Carrefour's purchasing power on the upstream markets for the supply of daily consumer goods, given the small share of purchases represented by the former stores of the Louis Delhaize group in France.
