Air France-KLM: eyes up Alitalia, alongside easyJet

(CercleFinance.com) - According to the Italian daily Il Sole 24 Ore, Alitalia, the Italian airline which is in financial difficulty could be whetting the appetite of a new takeover project from a consortium formed by easyJet, the British low-cost carrier, and Air France-KLM.

The Air France-KLM share is down over 3% today in Paris.

Until now, the newspaper says, Lufthansa seemed to be in the lead to takeover Alitalia, although the terms set out by the German airline fail to satisfy the Italian state.

However, the Air France-KLM/easyJet project would, for the moment, be conditional: Air France-KLM's participation could depend on an agreement with its US partner Delta Airlines. It would therefore have to wait until the end of the month before this potential project is finalised.
