E.ON: opens largest offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea
(CercleFinance.com) - German utility giant E.
ON today opened the Arkona project, the largest offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea. The wind farm, a joint venture with Norwegian energy group Equinor, is located 35 kilometres northeast off the German coast and has the capacity to supply renewable energy to 400,000 German homes, E.ON said. Siemens Gamesa has installed 60 turbines. The wind farm went into operation during a festive event in the port of Sassnitz-Mukran on the island of Rügen, with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Norway's Minister of Energy and Petroleum Kjell-Børge Freiberg.
