Daimler: extends Premium ride-hailing service in China

(CercleFinance.com) - Daimler announced on Tuesday the expansion of StarRides, its luxury ride-hailing service, to a third city in China.


Nine months after launching the offer in Hangzhou and one month after setting up in Guangzhou, the German automotive giant will now offer this premium service in Chengdu, in the central-western part of the country.

Daimler specifies that the service - launched in cooperation with the Chinese car maker Geely - is currently experiencing average monthly growth of around 80% in the number of active daily users.

The vast majority of these users are business travelers on their way to and from the airport or railway station, it said.

For the launch of the service in Chengdu, 100 Mercedes-Benz vehicles will be put on the road, Daimler continues, with plans to increase its fleet to 200 by the end of the year.
