BMW: successful test of humanoid robots in production
(CercleFinance.com) - The BMW Group's Spartanburg plant and the Californian robotics company Figure are testing the use of humanoid robots in production.
The group is currently testing and evaluating how humanoid robots can be used safely in automotive production.
In a trial lasting several weeks, the Figure 02 humanoid robot successfully inserted sheet metal parts into specific fixtures, which were then assembled into the chassis frame.
The robot needs to be particularly dexterous to carry out this production step successfully, BMW says.
Developments in the field of robotics are very promising. We want to accompany this from development technology to industrialization, it adds.
Meanwhile Figure said that Figure 02 features significant technical advances, enabling the robot to perform a wide range of complex tasks autonomously.
