Nestlé: ramps up plant-based alternatives range
(CercleFinance.com) - Nestlé announced on Thursday the launch of a plant-based egg alternative and a new shrimp substitute, confirming the recent expansion of its plant-based food offering.
Launched under the brand name "vEGGie" as part of the Garden Gourmet range, the egg alternative made from soya protein and omega-3 fatty acids is already rated A in the European Nutri-Score system.
The shrimp substitute, Garden Gourmet Vrimp, which is made from a combination of seaweed, peas and konjac root. It has a Nutri-Score of B.
Nestlé has recently expanded its range of vegan and vegetarian products, from plant-based burgers to veggie fillets, beetroot falafel and vegan tuna.
The agrifood giant claims that sales of plant-based alternatives to meat are already worth over 200 million Swiss francs (about 187 million euros).
