Nestlé: pledges 3.2 billion francs to tackle climate change

(CercleFinance.com) - Nestlé expects to invest 3.
2 billion Swiss francs over the next five years to accelerate its efforts to tackle climate change, the Swiss food giant said on Thursday.

As nearly two-thirds of the company's emissions come from agriculture, Nestlé plans to spend 1.2 billion Swiss francs to support farmers in implementing regenerative practices, the groupe said in a statement today.

Such practices improve soil health, while maintaining and restoring different ecosystems, it added.

Regarding its operations, Nestlé expects to complete the transition of its 800 sites in the 187 countries where it operates to 100% renewable electricity within the next five years.

Within its product portfolio, Nestlé will expand its offering of plant-based food and beverages, which are more environmentally friendly, the company pointed out.

For the record, the company aims to halve its emissions by 2030 and achieve net carbon neutrality by 2050.
