BlackBerry: buys AI, cybersecurity firm Cylance
(CercleFinance.com) - BlackBerry is buying artificial intelligence and cybersecurity firm Cylance for 1.
4 billion dollars in cash, to complement its portfolio in privacy, secure mobility, and the enterprise of things, the Canadian technology company said on Friday.
Fast-growing Cylance applies artificial intelligence, algorithmic science, and machine learning to cybersecurity for over 3,500 corporate customers, including more than 20% of the Fortune 500.
The deal is expected to close prior to the end of BlackBerry's current fiscal year, i.e. February 2019.
After the transaction is closed, Cylance - which was launched in 2012 - is expected to operate as a separate business unit, BlackBerry said.
