Gimv: merger between Melijoe and The Babyshop Group
(CercleFinance.com) - The Belgian investment fund Gimv announced on Thursday that Melijoe, one of the companies in its portfolio, will merge with Swedish upmarket children's fashion group The Babyshop Group.
Gimv says that the aim is to create the world's largest e-commerce site in the niche market of luxury children's fashion.
The private equity firm explains that the merger has the advantage of enabling the new group to reach the critical mass that is necessary for further development, maintaining a significant back-office investment capacity, while at the same time combining two businesses that are considered to be highly complementary.
Founded in 2007, the Melijoe e-commerce site now offers over 150 brands, including some from the largest fashion houses. Gimv acquired a stake in this Paris-based company in 2014.
